Itinerary for Seven Nights

Day 1
Fly into our homestead in a charter plane on skis.  A short dog mush to get you acquainted with our dogs and the equipment. We will show you how to harness and care for your dogs on the trail. We will check over your gear and provide you with what you need in terms of clothing and gear.

Day 2
Leave on the trail and mush to Trout Lake.  Try your luck at ice fishing or go snowshoeing.  Stay in a cozy warm cabin.

Day 3
From Trout Lake to Dancing Bear Lake with your team.  A great view of the mountains and another comfortable log cabin to sleep in.

Day 4
Mush all the way back to our homestead.  Rest up, enjoy the sauna, walk or snowshoe some of our nearby trails.

Day 5
Back on the trail with your team to Halfway Cabin on the Stewart River.  Keep your eyes open for moose on the river.

Day 6
Back to our home.  A good home cooked meal, and another sauna if you wish.

Day 7
Fly back to Whitehorse.

We also highly recommend longer stays of ten days to two weeks.  We have many more miles of trail to explore and amazing country to see.

What We Provide

All accommodation and meals.  All of our cabins are simple and comfortable and heated with a woodstove.  Your meals are cooked on a woodstove and candles are used for lighting.

Weather

This is a great time of year in the Yukon because although you can still get cold nights (45 below C at the coldest), with all the light and heat from the sun the days can warm up to 0 C.

What You Need to Bring

Dog mushing can be great exercise so you need to be in average to good shape. Our dogs are strong and eager but you will be required  at times to hop off the toboggan on hills and run behind.  The dogs like a little help when the load is heavy. For this reason you need clothes that layer.  You can take off a layer if you are hot and put one on if you are cold. Clothing should be quick drying – polar fleece is great, wool works fine too.

• Three season sleeping bag

• Winter boots or feltpacks

• 2-3 pairs of long johns that can be layered

• 1 pair outer windproof or snow proof pant

• 3 fleece or wool sweaters or jackets

• 2 long-sleeved shirts

• 4-6 pairs of heavy warm wool or thermo socks

• A warm hat

• 2 pairs mitts – fleece or wool

• Camera with enough film for the whole trip.

• Flashlight or headlight

• Sunglasses

• Toiletries

• Pocket knife

• Medications- prescription and non-prescription for the whole trip

• Ice fishing license if you plan to fish.  Ask in Whitehorse at a sporting goods store.
